The Maida–Windygates Border Crossing connects the cities of Langdon, North Dakota and Morden, Manitoba on the Canada–US border. Although Windygates seems like the perfect name for a border station in the Great Plains, it was apparently named after a village in Scotland, and it did not have a gate prior to 2002. Although the unincorporated community of Maida was established in 1884,[1] it never grew substantially; however it still maintains its own zip code.
The US border station of Maida, which was built in 1961, was replaced in 2012.[2] The Windygates border station was built in 1963, and is slated to be replaced in 2017.[3]
