- ** During the course of a 5000 m race on 17 November 2013 in Salt Lake City, Russian skater Denis Yuskov recorded a 3000 m split time at 3:36.40. Yuskov also recorded a 3000 m time of 3:34.37 during a training race held on 2 November 2013. However, neither of these times count as the world record. The former because it was a split time, and not an official 3000 m race, the latter because it was ridden in a so-called 'quartet-start' (four riders on the track at the same time as opposed to the usual two) which means the time is ineligible to be counted as a world record under Article 221(2)(i) of the rules of the International Skating Union.
For comparison, the fastest known 400 m lap was skated by Pavel Kulizhnikov on 20 November 2015 in Salt Lake City during his 500 meter world record race in 24.31 seconds with an average speed of 59.23 km/h (36.80 mph).

- * unofficial world best
- *** The average speed for the team pursuit races was calculated using a distance of 3098,88 meters for the men's race and 2324,16 meters for the women's race.[4] The skaters only utilise the inner lane and the lap distance is accordingly less than the 400 meters of a regular lap skated with one inner curve and one outer curve.
Sea level world bests
Salt Lake City and Calgary, where currently all world records were made, are at relatively high altitude. Since speed skating is easier at high altitudes,[5] skating statisticians keeps separate lists for skating at (or close to) sea level, where times in Salt Lake City and Calgary are ignored.
