Claremont Lincoln University (CLU) is an accredited[1] online graduate university offering master’s degrees in Ethical Leadership, Social Impact and Interfaith Action. [2] Incorporated into each program are a sequence of core courses designed to develop human capacities for awareness of self and others, dialogue, collaboration and strategies for change.[3]

History

In March 2008, the Board of Trustees at Claremont School of Theology voted to establish a new interreligious university. The purpose of the “University Project”, as it was known, was to create a new educational environment in which representatives of the worlds’ religions could study together and address social problems – including religious violence.[citation needed] The Claremont School of Theology Board officially incorporated the University in January 2010, the name of the University was first revealed on May 16, 2011, and classes launched in Fall 2011. The founding president was Jerry D. Campbell.[4]

In spring 2014, Claremont Lincoln decided to "move away from its interreligious roots and become a secular-focused university," as well as discontinue several of its programs. At this time, Claremont Lincoln and Claremont School of Theology decided to separate, and students whose programs were discontinued by Claremont Lincoln were offered admission into Claremont School of Theology, where they were able to complete their degrees. [5] Claremont Lincoln then began to work towards independent accreditation.

In 2016, Claremont Lincoln University was granted initial accreditation for three programs by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)
