Southern Hockey League
The first Polar Twins franchise operated in the Southern Hockey League from 1973 to 1977 before folding with the league.[1] They were followed by the Carolina Thunderbirds.
Southern Professional Hockey League
After several other franchises in Winston-Salem, a new team was launched in the 2004-05 season with the name "Polar Twins." They were a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). They folded after the inaugural season. They played their home games at the LJVM Coliseum Annex.
