Western Strikers are a soccer club from Adelaide, South Australia. Strikers play in the South Australian Super League. Their home ground is at Carnegie Reserve. They are great rivals of fellow western suburbs sides like the Toros and White City. Strikers have a number of strong junior sides. They are known for their flamboyant celebration moves.
History
Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. The club was founded in 1980 under the name of VC Woodville City Junior Soccer Club with a complement of three junior teams. – u/10, u/11 and u/12.
The six founding members were G.Leonardi, J.Carbone, M.Mirabelli, P.Corbo, A.Manou & J.Pellizari.
In 1994 the club fielded a senior team for the first time which played in the SA Amateur league. In 1996 the club fielded u/19 and u/23 teams in the SASF competition. In 1998 they fielded 3 senior teams.
The entry into the State League also coincided with a change in name to the Western Strikers and a change in playing venue with a move to the Grange Reserve. In 2000 the club moved to Carnegie Reserve.
Transition from State League to Super League
The Western Strikers F.C started in the State League, they made their way up to the Premier League, almost getting themselves into the Super League in 2007, but they have clinched their spot in the Super League in 2008 after a convincing win over South Adelaide 5–0. The win will take the Senior Team, Under 23's and 19's team into the Super League.
