Vettah (English: Hunt) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language thriller film directed and co-produced by Rajesh Pillai.[4][5][6] The film stars Kunchacko Boban, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran and Sandhya.[7][8][9] The script was written by Arunlal Ramachandran with A. V. Anoop co-producing the film. [10] The director, Rajesh Pillai, died on 27 February, 2016, the day after the film was released.[11]
Plot
Two members of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Commissioner Sreebala and Assistant Commissioner Xylex Abraham, investigate the disappearance of the actress Uma Sathyamoorthi. Sreebala and Xylex arrest Melvin, a legal assistant, as the prime suspect. During the interrogation, Melvin reveals that he carried out the killings of both the missing actress and her companion Emil, but has since forgotten where he buried their bodies. Melvin also reveals that he lost his daughter four years before leaving his wife Sherin, a drug addict who committed suicide. However, he later confesses to Sreebala and Xylex that his wife did not commit suicide, but died at the hands of Melvin after he found her in an extramarital affair with Emil (Uma's companion).
It is later discovered that Uma and Emil are not in fact dead, but rather kidnapped by Melvin. By this point, Melvin's ability to manipulate Sreebala and Xylex starts to become evident. As the story unfolds, Melvin leads Xylex into believing that his wife is also having an affair with another man, which leads him to kill the purported boyfriend of his wife (although he later learns that this affair never occurred). Meanwhile, Sreebala is made to believe (for a time) that the accident that left her father severely handicapped was actually an assassination attempt planned by Xylex.
As he spends more time with Sreebala and Xylex, Melvin eventually shares that his daughter Angel was a poor student and often used to get locked in a kennel by both the owner and principal of the school. Not coincidentally, the owner happens to be the same man purported to be an adulterer and killed by Xylex, and later revealed to have been the real murderer of Melvin's wife. Soon after, Sreebala accidentally kills a woman while driving in a woods with Xylex and Melvin, and it is later discovered that she is the principal involved in punishing Melvin's daughter.
At the end of the film, it is revealed that Melvin manipulated both Xylex and Sreebala to avenge his wife and daughter; and is jailed for one year for kidnapping Uma and her companion.
