The Barclay School is a secondary school and sixth form located in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The current head teacher is Debbie Upton, appointed 5 September 2011.[1]
Opening in 1949, it was one of the first purpose-built secondary schools constructed in the UK after the Second World War, and was awarded a Festival of Britain architectural award in 1951.[2] In May 2009, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary.
The school contains a large bronze statue by Henry Moore, 'The Family Group',[3] which was placed at the school's main entrance and is now inside and can be seen in the front of the school.
The Barclay School Karting team has been around since 1971.[4]
The school Ofsted review in May 2012 categorised Barclay as 'satisfactory' with good capacity to improve.
The school is well known for its open riser stairs, being some of the first in the country.
