Subin made her official debut through the release of Supa Dupa Diva with Dal Shabet on January 3, 2011.[4] Since debuting, she has been included in all seven of the group's albums and has been featured in all of their promotional music videos.
Along with her fellow Dal Shabet members, Subin made a cameo in the hit KBS drama Dream High as a student of Kirin High School.[5] Subin and Dal Shabet also later appeared in the movie Wonderful Radio as the fictional girl group 'Corby Girls'.[6]
Subin has also participated in Dal Shabet's reality shows Sweet Sweet Story and Cool Friends, as well as their YouTube series Shabet on Air.
Solo activities
Singing/songwriting
Along with fellow Dal Shabet member Serri, Subin participated in the OST for the OCN drama God's Quiz 2. The track, titled Turn Your Head, was released on June 23, 2011.[7]
Subin composed and co-wrote the song Just Pass By with BTOB's Ilhoon. The track is Subin's first solo and was included on Dal Shabet's seventh extended play B.B.B, which was released on January 8, 2014.[8] Dal Shabet's 8th EP, Joker is Alive, released on April 15, 2015, was produced by Subin, with all tracks co-written by her.[9]
Subin debuted as a soloist on May 12, 2016 with the single album Flower (Hangul: 꽃; RR: Kkot), containing the songs "Hate" and "Flower". Both songs were written and produced by Subin.[10]
Acting
On December 25, 2013, Subin made a cameo appearance in the SBS drama My Love from the Star.[11]
Show hosting
Subin has managed to gain recognition outside of Dal Shabet through her abilities as an MC. She is often chosen by production companies for her unique Jeolla dialect.
She joined the cast of Koreana Jones on March 28, 2011. The program, which focused on celebrities scouring the country for beautiful scenery, ran until May 16, 2011. Subin participated in eight episodes.[12]
Subin's career as an MC began through the KBS2 TV program Poker Face Season 2, which debuted on July 13, 2011. The show ran until September 7, 2011, and had ten episodes, which Subin co-MC'd with four other celebrities.[13]
In 2012, Subin became a temporary eight-episode MC for SBS MTV's Studio C with Mighty Mouth.[14] She later joined the cast of MBC's Music Storage with Yang Hee-eun, Horan, and ZE:A's Junyoung. The show ran for ten episodes from October 13, 2012, to December 1, 2012.[15]
Subin made her MC breakthrough on January 28, 2013, when she became the host of the MBC program Music Talk Talk Ma Bling with model and actor Ahn Jae-hyun.[16] Music Talk Talk Ma Bling studied musical trends in South Korea, discussed popular music, and reported various musical chart data. The show ran for 117 episodes, with the final episode premiering on July 12, 2013.[17] During the run of this program, Subin was cast in the seven-episode tvN mini-series Find the Fake.[18]
On May 2, 2014, Subin became a cast member of the second season of MBC Every 1's 9 to 6, a program which involved celebrities seeking employment in jobs outside of the entertainment agency.[19] The official broadcast of the program experienced multiple interruptions and delays due to the Sewol tragedy and Subin being involved in a car accident.[20][21]
Personal life
Following the filming of MBC Every 1's 9 to 6 on May 23, 2014, Subin and her manager were involved in a car accident. Subin was admitted to a hospital in Seoul, where she received surgery on her right leg.[21] Due to the severity of her injuries, Subin's agency canceled all of her scheduled activities and put Dal Shabet on a temporary musical hiatus.
