Soprano Design Pty Ltd, founded in 1994, is a privately held international mobile software development company headquartered in Sydney, Australia, with offices in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia.[1]
Soprano designs and develops carrier-grade enterprise mobile messaging software for the telecommunications industry, selling their applications and services to mobile network operators (MNOs) and mobile service providers (MSPs) to enable them to provide value-added messaging services to their enterprise and government customers.[2]
Soprano also develops and sells business applications to enterprises, government and businesses. Soprano's business messaging applications include: sending SMS & MMS messages from a browser; a broadcast messaging application for direct marketing; a campaign management tool for managing inbound marketing campaigns including surveys, votes, and competitions; and a tool for distributing and confirming staff rosters via SMS.[3]
Soprano’s most recent product, SOPRANO GAMMA, is an encrypted, enterprise-grade mobile messaging app built on the company’s SOPRANO MEMS platform that delivers an IP-based interactive messaging experience at a lower cost than SMS while preserving SMS capabilities for last-mile coverage. It extends new security and multimedia features to existing systems and combines IP with SMS into a common experience, enabling enriched IP-based mobile messaging.[3]
Soprano is the premier enterprise messaging partner for Telstra, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, and is a strategic partner to 15 mobile network operators in four major global regions, including AT&T in the US, EE in the UK and Starhub in Singapore. Soprano solutions are actively deployed by thousands of enterprise and government organizations around the globe.[2]
History
Soprano Design was founded as a software consulting company in intelligent networks. Between 1994 and 1998, Soprano assisted Optus with the rollout of its 2.0 GSM network.
In 2000, Soprano began working with Telstra to enhance the latter’s Enhanced Information Services Platform to deliver standard and premium SMS alerts, as well as WAP push alerts and WAP pull services. This product had a 10-year run; its final version was released in 2010.
In the same year, Soprano also launched the Soprano Corporate Gateway Platform (CGP), a product designed to enable high-volume, mission-critical SMS for Telstra’s largest messaging customers. In 2001, Soprano powered the first mobile payment transaction in Australia, and in 2002 began powering voting for the Australian Idol TV show.
Soprano launched its Mobile Enterprise Messaging Suite, or MEMS, in 2006. The product was the company’s entry into SaaS (cloud-hosted) enterprise messaging. The hierarchical platform design and global capabilities allowed Soprano to support Fortune 500 customers in Asia, Australia, Europe and the USA.
Between 2007 and 2012, Soprano partnered with major carriers to enter new markets around the world, including Telstra in Australia, AT&T in the United States, Starhub in Singapore and EE in the United Kingdom.[4]
In 2014, Soprano launched SOPRANO GAMMA, an encrypted enterprise mobile messaging application that was the company’s first foray into encrypted IP-based enterprise messaging. The solution adds a mobile experience to the SOPRANO MEMS cloud-based solution and possesses integrated SMS+IP functionality.[5]
International Presence
Soprano has 20 offices in London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Cluj - Napoca, Bucharest and Barcelona in Europe; São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Medellin and Santiago de Chile in South America; Seattle and Atlanta in USA; Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in Asia; Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Wellington and Auckland in Australia and New Zealand.[1]
Product Lines
Soprano Design offers two primary products for enterprises: SOPRANO MEMS and SOPRANO GAMMA.
SOPRANO Mobile Enterprise Messaging System (MEMS) is a geo-redundant and feature-rich software platform used by government and enterprise entities around the world. The platform is a scalable, carrier-grade software infrastructure with the ability to handle volume spikes and maintain low message delivery latency and high platform availability.[3]
SOPRANO Global Advanced Mobile Messaging Application (GAMMA) is an IP-enabled solution that, unlike consumer-grade messaging apps, delivers enterprise-grade features required to help businesses make an orderly transition away from SMS.[citation needed]
SOPRANO GAMMA seamlessly switches between delivering IP messages or SMS through an intelligent switching capability, which enables advanced features for online users but maintains coverage for offline users. The product also features encryption methodology, acknowledgement, multimedia, interactive forms to replace texting, and auditable conversations. Each of the company’s products integrate tightly with each other and with other software products via APIs.[5]
