History
San Lorenzo affiliated to Argentine Association in 1930, winning a large amount of championships from the 1930s to the 1970s, being nicknamed The Cathedral of Basketball. The club toured on Brazil (1957), Europe (1971) and Central America and the United States in 1974. San Lorenzo also played an exhibition game v. the Harlem Globetrotters at Estadio Luna Park in 1951.
On April 26, 1985, San Lorenzo played the opening game of the recently created Liga Nacional de Basquetball, facing Argentino de Firmat at Obras Sanitarias venue.[2]
The basketball section of the club was inactive between 1986 and 1993, returning only at youth levels. In 1996 San Lorenzo's senior squad returned to first division tournaments of the city of Buenos Aires. Since then, the club won the U-22 championship (2004) and Copa De Oyarbide (2012).
In 2014, San Lorenzo debuted at Torneo Nacional de Ascenso, the second division of professional basketball in Argentina.[3]
In 2015 San Lorenzo acquired a vacancy for the Liga Nacional because of a merging with 9 de Julio de Río Tercero.[4] 30 years after its debut in the LNB, San Lorenzo returned to the top division on September 22, 2015, beating Quimsa by 79-64.[5]
