Saltlick Township is a township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,715 at the 2000 census. It is served by the Connellsville Area School District.

Indian Head, Millertown, Champion, Maple Grove, White, Clinton, and Melcroft are township villages.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 37.7 square miles (97.5 km²), of which, 37.7 square miles (97.5 km²) of it is land and 0.03% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,715 people, 1,385 households, and 1,052 families residing in the township. The population density was 98.7 people per square mile (38.1/km²). There were 1,743 housing units at an average density of 46.3/sq mi (17.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.33% White, 0.03% Native American, 0.08% Asian, and 0.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.38% of the population.

There were 1,385 households, out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.1% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the township the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,423, and the median income for a family was $39,844. Males had a median income of $29,835 versus $20,088 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,554. About 8.4% of families and 10.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.1% of those under age 18 and 12.1% of those age 65 or over.
