Sally Read
Sally Read (born 1971 in Suffolk[1]) is a British poet and former psychiatric nurse.[2]
Work and awards
She shared the Eric Gregory Award in 2001.[3] In 2005 she released her first collection, The Point of Splitting, in 2009 her second collection Broken Sleep,[4] and in 2012 her third The Day Hospital. Her first collection was shortlisted for the Jerwood-Aldeburgh First Collection Prize. She received her BA from Open University and then an MA from the University of South Dakota.[5] A selection of her works, Punto della Rottura, is also available in Italian.[6]
Religious and personal life
She was raised atheist, but on 14 December 2010 she was received into the Catholic Church.[7][8] She is poet in residence at The Hermitage of the Three Holy Hierarchs, which is an eparchial-rite form of consecrated life under the jurisdiction of Bishop Bryan Bayda, the Eparch of Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon. Fr. Gregory Hrynkiw, of the group, played a role in her conversion. Sally Read lives with her husband and daughter in Santa Marinella.[9]
