The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cheyenne (Latin: Dioecesis Cheyennensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese covering the state of Wyoming, as well as the parts of Yellowstone National Park in Montana and Idaho. St. Mary's Cathedral is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
History
The diocese was founded on August 2, 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. Maurice Francis Burke was the first bishop. The see had been vacant from the August 2008 installation of Bishop Ricken in the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin until the October 19, 2009 announcement of the appointment of Bishop-elect Etienne.[1]
