Raymond "Ray" Platte (September 3, 1925 - July 21, 1963) was a NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup Series) driver from the American town of Norfolk, Virginia.[1]
Platte only competed in the 1955 Southern 500.[1] As a competitor in the 1955 Southern 500, he raced for Harry Parry in a Chevrolet and finished in 25th place.[2] In the process, he won $100 ($883.35 when adjusted for inflation) for his single-race NASCAR career.[1]
The "Virginia Gentleman" crashed into a wall during a race held at South Boston Speedway, sustaining a skull fracture. He died the following day.[3]
