Pakistanis in Iraq are mostly workers contracted and consigned to various construction companies, most of which are Kuwaiti.[1] The number of these workers, as projected by the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation and various other sources, equals approximately 400.[2] In recent times, Pakistani expatriates have seen growing threats to safety. The controversial killings of two Pakistanis in Iraq in 2005 led to high tensions between the two countries, with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Pakistan banning all visas for Pakistanis to Iraq and insisting that all Pakistani nationals vacate Iraq.[3]
