La Pacana Caldera is the most important caldera of the La Pacana Complex in the Antofagasta Region, of northern Chile, east of the Salar de Atacama. The La Pacana Complex belongs to the Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex. The Chilean, Bolivian, and Argentinan borders meet to the northeast of the resurgent center (Cerro La Pacana), the Salar Aguas Calientes is on the southwest of the resurgent center. The size of the caldera depression is 70 km (43 mi) x 35 km (22 mi). A large (VEI 8) eruption c. 4 million years ago produced 2,500 km3 (600 cu mi) of tephra.
