The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) is a research centre of its parent organisation, the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) providing for scientific research and increased knowledge in atmospheric science in the United Kingdom.[3]

The NCAS performs research into climate change, air quality, weather and atmospheric modelling. [4][5] NCAS employs over 130 members of staff across 19 organisations, and is head quartered at the University of Leeds [6][7]

Organisation

The NCAS is organised into the following structural units:[1]

  • NCAS-Climate
  • NCAS-Weather
  • NCAS-Composition
  • The Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements (FAAM)
  • The Universities' Facilities for Atmospheric Measurement (UFAM)
  • The British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC)
  • Computational Modelling Services (CMS)
