Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Faishal bin Ibrahim (born 16 June 1968[1]) is a politician from Singapore. A member of the country's governing People's Action Party (PAP), he is currently a Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.[2] He also currently serves as a Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC for the ward of Nee Soon Central. He has been an MP since 2006.[3]
Career
Faishal began his career at the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, before joining the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1996 as a Senior Tutor.[3] He became an Associate Professor of the University in 2000.
Political career
Faishal was first elected to parliament at the 2006 general election as an MP for the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency. At the 2011 general election, he was elected as an MP for the Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency.
In July 2012, Faishal was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport.[4]
In October 2015, following the Cabinet reshuffle, Faishal was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.[5]
Education
Faishal had his early education at Telok Kurau East Primary School, Bedok South Primary School, Bedok View Secondary School and Nanyang Junior College. He then went on to the National University of Singapore, where he completed Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Master of Science degrees in Real Estate Management. He subsequently earned a PhD in Management Science at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
Personal and family life
A Muslim, Faishal is married and has two children.[6]
