Maria Orbeli (Russian: Мария Орбели) (1916 — 1949) — Soviet phisicist of Armenian origin. She is the daughter of well-known Soviet physiologist and academician Leon Orbeli.
Biography
Maria Orbeli was born in Armenian family of Leon Orbeli and Elizabeth Aladjova in 1916. She belonged to renowned Armenian clan of scientists, whose ancestor known from XII centuries. In 1938 Maria Orbeli graduated Leningrad University, after that she work in Voeikov observatory. From 1939 to 1949 she worked in Khlopin Radium Institute.[1] She studied nuclear physics and division uranium under the influence neutrons. During the process of her work she got sick Acute radiation syndrome, and some time after that she is dead.[2]
Maria Orbeli was buried at the Bogoslovskoe cemetery in 1949.[3]
