"Man Smart (Woman Smarter)" is a calypso written by King Radio (Norman Span).[1] Variations of it have been recorded by many artists including Harry Belafonte, The Carpenters, Rosanne Cash, Chubby Checker,[2] Dr Victor, Robert Palmer, and Ratdog. It was a staple of the live repertoire of the Grateful Dead from 1981 to 1995.[3]

There is some uncertainty about the song's origins. Belafonte's 1956 recording credited the 1936 King Radio recording. Subsequently, some artists[4] have credited it to D. Klieber, a pseudonym used by D. L. Miller.[5] This would place the origins of the song after Miller entered the music industry in the late 1940s.[6]

The song is sometimes mislabeled "Women Are Smarter".
