Luit Bieringa (born 1942) is a New Zealand art historian, museum consultant and documentary maker.[1]
Bieringa held the position of Director at the Manawatu Art Gallery from 1971 until 1979, when he was appointed as Director of the National Art Gallery of New Zealand. He held this position until 1989. He is a champion of photography in New Zealand, promoting it on a national level with major exhibitions at the National Art Gallery during his directorship, including NZ surveys and retrospectives of the photography of Peter Black, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman and Richard Misrach.
In 2006, he made a documentary about photographer Ans Westra.[2]
