The official language of Botswana is English, which was inherited from colonial rule (see: Bechuanaland Protectorate). Setswana is spoken by around 90% of the population.
There are over 20 much smaller languages, the largest of which is Kalanga (Sekalanga),[1] while other languages include Sarwa (Sesarwa), Ndebele, !Xóõ and in some parts Afrikaans.
