The Khaleej Times is a daily English language newspaper published in United Arab Emirates.[2][3] It is the longest running English language newspaper published in the UAE.[4]
History and profile
The Galadari Brothers began publishing the daily on 16 April 1978, making it the first English daily in the UAE.[5][6] The daily is published in Sharjah.[3] The newspaper was also partially owned by the UAE government.[7][8] However, in 2008 the government's share was raised.[4] In addition, the government took over the daily's management and appointed a new editor-in-chief.[4]
The staff of the paper are mostly Indian and Pakistani journalists.[4] The broadsheet comprises the general news section, the business pages and a lively sports section. Additionally, it covers Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia through a dedicated distribution network. The newspaper also consists of Special Reports and Supplements which allow for community advertisements and other services. Its main competitors are 7DAYS, UAE WEEKEND Magazine",The National and Gulf News.[9]
