Kazbek Gekkiyev (c.1984 – 5 December 2012) was a Russian television journalist who was killed on 5 December 2012 in the North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.[1] He was the seventh journalist murdered in ten years in the North Caucasus region.[2]

Career

Gekkiyev was a television journalist and news announcer. After a number of his colleagues resigned due to threats, he became the anchorperson of the TV program Vesti of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) "Kabardino-Balkaria",[3] which is a local-state controlled TV channel.[4]

Death

Gekkiyev was murdered in Nalchik, the capital of the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, on 5 December 2012.[3] He was shot in the head by two men while going to his home with a friend.[2][5] Gekkiyev was 28 years old.[6]
