Karandev I was a Solanki ruler credited with laying the foundation of the city of Karnavati,[1] an old name for the city of Ahmedabad in western India. He waged a successful war against the Bhil king of Ashaval and soon after the victory established Karnavati on the banks of the Sabarmati river at the site of modern Ahmedabad. Karandev married Minaldevi by whom he had a son named Siddharaj Jaisinh.

Popular culture

The story of Karandev, Minaldevi and their son Siddhraj is depicted in the Gujarati novel "Patan ni prabhuta" by Kanhaiyalal Munshi.
