Kaşık Havası (literally "spoon tune") is the arranged form of a traditional Turkish folkloric dance tune by the guitar band Silüetler. In its original form, the dancers use wooden spoons as a kind of castanet. But Silüetler which used to play more or less The Shadows type music,[1] increased its musical rhythm and arranged it for guitar band as an example of hard rock. In 1965 the band entered Golden Microphone music contest . Although originally their contest entry was Sis, it was Kaşık Havası on the reverse side of the 45 rpm record which became a hit. The record was released by Hürriyet newspaper (sponsor of the contest) [2]
