Jabrayil (Cəbrayıl) is a rayon of Azerbaijan. Almost the entire region was occupied in 1993 and has been controlled by the breakway Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, as part of its Hadrut Province, since the Nagorno-Karabakh War. According to the last 1989 Soviet census, there were 49,156 people living in the rayon.[2] According to undated Azerbaijani data, the population of the rayon was 62,100.[3] Jabrail rayon has productive soils, and before the war the population was mostly involved in agriculture. Jabrail shares its southern borders with Iran.
