Inside is an upcoming puzzle platformer adventure video game developed by Playdead. The game will be a timed-exclusive for the Xbox One and will eventually be released on multiple platforms.
Plot
Inside tells the story about a young boy as he struggles against evil forces trying to take over the world through questionable experiments on human bodies.
Development
Playdead Studios released Limbo, a black-and-white indie game[1] that sold over a million copies,[2] in July 2010. The studio began to work on its second game, Inside, the same year.[3][4] A year into development, Playdead said that the game was very similar to its previous project but more "crazy", "weird", and 3D.[4] Some of Inside's elements were derived from remnants of Limbo's development.[2] The game's development was partially funded by a grant from the Danish government.[5] Inside is built in the Unity game engine.[2]
Microsoft announced Inside during its June 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference.[1] The game had earlier been planned for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and OS X.[2] Playdead had purposely waited four years so as to give little time between the announce event and the launch.[4] IGN wrote that the announcement was a sign of Microsoft's commitment to indie game development[6] and Ryan McCaffrey said it was his biggest surprise of the year.[7] The developer later delayed the game from its expected early 2015 release, but provided no expected launch window.[3] A playable demo was prepared for an August 2015 Microsoft event before PAX Prime.[8] The game is planned for release on the Xbox One,[1] but Playdead has also expressed interest in other consoles.[4]
Reception
Inside was probably one of Polygon and IGN's most anticipated 2016 releases.[9][10]
