Hunter Page-Lochard

Hunter Djali Yumunu Page-Lochard (born 4 July 1993) is an Australian Actor of both Aboriginal Australian and North American descent. Page-Lochard is best known for his roles in The Sapphires (2012), Around the Block (2013) and The Djarn Djarns (2005).

Biography

Life

Hunter is the son of Stephen Page who is from Brisbane and Cynthia Lochard who is from Manhattan. He was born in Sydney. His mother was a dancer for the New York City Ballet and is now a renowned teacher for the Pilates Method. His father was a dancer turned choreographer in which he became the artistic director for Bangarra Dance Theatre, which he still runs today.

Film

Hunter made his feature film debut in Rachel Perkins’ award winning film, Bran Nue Dae (2010). He appeared in Wayne Blair's The Sapphires, which screened in Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival. Hunter also featured as the lead in Sarah Spillane's feature film, Around the Block (2013) alongside Christina Ricci, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013. In 2015 he also attended the Toronto International Film Festival for Stephen Page's feature film debut Spear (2015), produced by Robert Connelly and John Harvey. He has also featured in several short films including Adrian Wills Arcadia and Wayne Blair’s Black Talk and The Djarn Djarns (2005), which won the Crystal Bear Award for Best Short Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Television

Hunter has appeared in guest roles on the Water Rats (2001), East West 101 (2007), directed by Peter Andrikidis and ABC2's Soul Mates (2014). He will also appear as the lead in Wayne Blair and Leah Purcell's upcoming Genre series, ABC's Cleverman (2016) Produced by Goalpost Pictures and Pukeko Pictures starring Iain Glen, Frances O'Connor, Stef Dawson and Ryan Corr.

Theatre

Hunter first appeared on stage at six months old in Yirra Yaken: The Cake Man (1993), then at an older age in Stephen Page’s Skin (2000), Boomerang (2007) and Blak (2013) for the Bangarra Dance Theatre. He then appeared in Bloodland (2012) for the Sydney Theatre Company and Adelaide Festival. He then featured in Wesley Enochs, Black Diggers (2014) apart of the Queensland Theatre Company. He then played the lead in Brothers Wreck (2014) at the Belvoir St Theatre directed by Leah Purcell and Written by Jada Alberts. Then going on to play a role in ATYP's Sugarland (2014) which then ended in Hunter winning the Sydney Theatre Best Newcomer Award for Black Diggers, Brothers Wreck and Sugarland. Which then lead to him being nominated for a Helpmann Award in 2015 for Brothers Wreck alongside Hugo Weaving and Peter Carol. He also starred as Orestes in Belvoir St Theatre's Elektra/Orestes (2015).

Education

In 2012 he graduated from Australian Film, Television and Radio School receiving a certificate in Screenwriting and completed an Actors Residency course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art.
