Holy Cross Church (San Jose, California)
The Holy Cross Church was a Catholic church in San Jose, California, United States, that served the Holy Cross Parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose in California from 1919 until a fire damaged it in 2014. The church building is scheduled for demolition. The parish and its school are staffed by the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo (Scalabrinians). English, Spanish, and Italian Masses have been held in the adjoining gym since the fire.
History
The parish was founded in 1906 to serve Italian immigrants in the north side neighborhood of San Jose.[1] It was located in San Jose, California, and was constructed in 1919, and dedicated in 1920.[2] The church was damaged significantly by a fire on November 16, 2014. The church's 10 foot antique Italian gilded wood crucifix was recovered, untouched, from the building, after the fire.[3] The church building will be demolished in June 2015.[4] Until a replacement church building is completed, the parish holds Masses in the gym.
