The Fort Berthold Community College (FBCC) is a tribally controlled college chartered by the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation headquarters at New Town, North Dakota. The college has branches in Mandaree and White Shield.

History
The College was founded May 2, 1973, as the agency responsible for higher education on the Fort Berthold Reservation. The Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation in New Town, North Dakota endorsed the concept that a locally based higher education institution was needed to train Tribal members and to help retain the Tribal cultures. FBCC was chartered by the Three Affiliated Tribes.[1]
Mission and vision
The FBCC mission is:
- provide Quality Cultural, Academic, and Vocational Education and Services for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation
- to act as positive influence in retaining the Tribal cultures.[1]
Governance
FBCC is tribally controlled by a Board of Directors, which consist of seven members. A steering committee was appointed to oversee the initial operations of the College. This committee was replaced by the selection of a Board of Directors in 1974. The College proceeded to developed a long-range plan. The planning improved the educational and vocational services in the communities throughout the Reservation.[1]
Partnerships
The first classes offered at FBCC were on an extension basis with coordinating accredited institutions. Fort Berthold Community College was granted accreditation on July 12, 2006, through the Higher Learning Commission of Schools and Colleges. FBCC was granted accreditation on Feb. 12, 1988, through the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. The college is also one of 32 tribal colleges granted Land Grant Institution status in 1994. Fort Berthold Community College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Fort Berthold Community College is also a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC).[1]

The agreements were first made with University of Mary, Bismarck, ND; Minot State College, Minot, ND; and the University of North Dakota, Williston Center, Williston, ND.
