|
Elections to East Ayrshire Council are to be held on 3 May 2012, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election is the second using 9 new wards created as a results of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system a form of proportional representation. The new wards replaced 32 single-member wards which used the plurality (first past the post) system of election.

Post Election Changes
- † Kilmarnock North SNP Cllr Andrew Kershaw died on 31 December 2013.[1] A by-election was held on 27 March 2014 and his seat was held by Elaine Cowan of the SNP.
- †† Irvine Valley SNP Cllr Alan Brown was elected as a MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun on 7 May 2015.[2] He resigned his Council seat on 17 July 2015 and a by-election was held on 1 October 2015. His seat was held by Elena Whitham of the SNP.
