Tamil Nadu has performed reasonably well in terms of literacy growth during the decade 2001–2011. The state's literacy rate increased from 73.47% in 2001 to 80.09% in 2011.[38][39]

- As per, 2011 Census of India , Scheduled Castes constitute 20% of Tamilnadu's 72 million population. [49][50][51][52] 1.10 per cent of the population belonged to Scheduled tribes (ST).[53] Other Backward Classes(OBCs) form 68% of Tamil nadu population.[54]
