Das Monster von Minden

"Das Monster von Minden" is an informal name for a theropod dinosaur from the Late Jurassic, brought to international notice in 1999. It was found in Westphalia, Germany, near Minden. It is known from an assortment of bones including parts of the skull (premaxilla, maxilla, and possible lacrimal and postorbital bones), the anterior part of a dentary, teeth, fused gastralia, two tail vertebrae, one complete rib and four rib fragments, an ilium, fibulae, and other elements. Initial reports of a rib 50% larger than in Allosaurus, which is said to resemble, stirred speculations of it being up to 15 metres (49 ft) in length. Holtz estimates it at 12m. The remains are currently undescribed, but according to Michael Mortimer, the maxilla, the main tooth-bearing bone of the upper jaw, measures at 51.7 centimetres (20.4 in) long, suggesting a skull length of around , along with the 75.0 centimetres (29.5 in) fibula, this suggest and individual in the region of 7 to 8 metres (23 to 26 ft) in length and 0.75 to 1.2 metric tons (0.83 to 1.32 short tons) in weight.
