Church of the Apostles (Atlanta)
The Church of the Apostles is an evangelical, independent Anglican megachurch located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. Michael Youssef is the rector.[1] The church is located north of the intersection of Northside Parkway (US Hwy 41) and West Paces Ferry Road.
The Church of the Apostles was founded in 1987 by Michael Youssef. He left Egypt to attend college in Australia and immigrated to the United States in 1977.[1]
Youssef founded the church with the theme of "Equip the Saints and Seek the Lost". The church now has over 3,000 members. The church radio and television ministry is called "Leading The Way".
Facility
The prominent Neo-Gothic building is visible from Interstate 75, just south of the Mt. Paran Road exit. The sanctuary seats 2,800, is 240 feet (73 m) high, consists of 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) of space and has over 90 stained glass windows. The west stained glass windows depict the Apostles, and the stairwell and perimeter stained glass windows depict the life of Jesus. The rose window is also notable. The facility also includes a 450-seat chapel, fellowship hall, classrooms, administrative space and a parking garage.
Long-time Atlanta residents remember the site (just south of Nancy Creek) as the location of the old Allstate Insurance office building.
Statement of faith
- We believe the Bible to be inspired, the only infallible Word of God.
- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
- We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.
