Paeonia in ancient geography was an area in the southern Balkans immediately north of Macedonia, south of Dardania, west of Thrace, and east of Illyria. It was populated by the ancient Paeonians and other peoples, the territory later being conquered in the middle of the 4th century B.C. by Macedonia and then in the 2nd century B.C. by Rome.
