- This category is for Geonim, rabbis who served as 1) presidents of one of the two great Talmudic Academies in post-Talmudic Babylonia, namley that of Sura and Pumbedita; 2) presidents of the Tiberias or Jerusalem Palestinian Gaonate; 3) Leaders of Egyptian Jewry during that period. The Geonic period lasted from around 600 to 1050.
