Brent J. Crane (born July 2, 1974 in Nampa, Idaho)[2] is a Republican Idaho State Representative since 2006 representing District 13 in the A seat.[1]
Education
Crane graduated high school from Nampa Christian School and earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Boise State University.
Elections
- 2012 Unopposed for the May 15, 2012, Republican primary, Crane won with 2,834 votes, facing Democratic nominee Clayton Trehal[3] for the general election on November 6, 2012..
- 2006 When Republican Representative Dolores J. Crow retired and left the seat open, Crane won the May 23, 2006, Republican primary with 3,296 votes (57.5%) against Jim Barnes;[4] Crane won the three-party November 7, 2006, general election with 10,631 votes (68.72%) against Democratic nominee Douglas Yarbrough and Libertarian nominee Dennis Weiler.[5]
- 2008 Unopposed for the May 27, 2008, Republican primary, Crane won with 5,149 votes[6] and was unopposed for the November 4, 2008, general election, winning with 18,759 votes.[7]
- 2010 Unopposed for the May 25, 2010, Republican primary, Crane won with 5,147 votes[8] and was unopposed for the November 2, 2010, general election, winning with 14,122 votes.[9]
In January 2015, Brent Crane was the sole vote against adding sexual orientation and gender identity protections in the state's Human Rights Act. The House Ways and Means Committee, made up of Republican legislative leadership, voted 6-1 to bring the proposed legislation to a full hearing. Crane voted against the bill, saying he voted to protect marriage between one man and one woman. The bill does not address same-sex marriage but Crane says that the two issues are closely connected.[10]
