Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir (BGKV) is a co-educational private secondary school in Salt Lake, Kolkata, India, established in 1984. It has two wings, the Primary Wing and the Higher Secondary Wing. It has a management school within its campus.
It is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and administered by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It was named after Seth Gangabux Kanoria, a Marwari businessman.[1]
The school is one of the most popular schools in West Bengal. It even ranks among the top 5 Bhavan's schools in India.
The general uniform for students is white shirt and grey trousers (for boys) or skirts (for girls), with a red-white-grey striped tie.

Campus
Buildings
The school houses two main buildings and an annexe building in its Higher Secondary Wing, while the Primary Wing contains two buildings. There is a newly erected auditorium building, also called the Seminar Hall, where people gather to debate, discuss, attend seminars, workshops and meetings, and even to mourn.There is also a building called "Bhavan's Institute of Management Science" inside the school campus where management courses are offered. An extension of the building is underway, which is likely to accommodate a women's hostel. There are two canteens in the school. One offers snacks and beverages while the other provides main course food.
Sports and Playground
The school has a large field which is shared by the Primary and Higher Secondary Wings. The field is of a standard sized football ground. Adjacent to the field, there are two basketball courts. There is a cricket practicing net on the other side of the field. There is a full-fledged sports department in the school, which offers courses like Physical Education in +1 and +2 levels. There is a fully equipped sports room with accommodations for outdoor games like Soccer, Cricket Basket Ball, Volleyball, Throw Ball, Badminton, and indoor games such as Chess and Table Tennis. There is a Table Tennis Room for students to play. The school also has a Yoga Room for Yoga lessons. Coaching classes for Basketball, Karate and Table Tennis are conducted post school hours.

Classrooms and Libraries
There are 10 well ventilated spacious classrooms on each floor, in each building. The rooms are well equipped with modern teaching aids (Smart Classes) which include white boards, projectors, speakers, computers etc. The school has a full equipped library and reading rooms both in the Primary and Higher Secondary Sections. There is an enviable stock of books and CD's which gets updated from time to time.
Laboratories
Physics Laboratories
The school houses two very well equipped physics labs, namely the Junior Lab (for students from classes VI to X) and the Senior Lab (for students of classes XI and XII). Each lab can accommodate up to 25 students. The Senior Lab is computerized.
Chemistry Laboratories
The school contains two very well equipped Chemistry labs, namely the Junior Lab (for students of classes IX and X) and the Senior Lab (for students of classes XI and XII). Each lab can accommodate up to 25 students. Both the labs are computerized.
Biology Laboratories
The school contains two very well equipped Biology labs, namely the Junior Lab (for students of classes IX and X) and the Senior Lab (for students of classes XI and XII). Each lab can accommodate up to 25 students.
Geography Laboratory
The school even has a Geography lab, which is used by students of classes XI and XII. There are eight tracing tables in the lab. The lab is computerized.
Computer Laboratories
There are two air-conditioned computer labs in the school, one in the Primary Wing and another in the Higher Secondary Wing. There are 25 computers in the Primary Wing whereas 35 computers and in the Higher Secondary Wing. The students of +2 levels have a separate subject called the "Computer Science".
The Art-Room
The school contains a well furnished art room for students interested in creative activities. The art room is computerized and contains creative pieces such as clay modelling, paintings, lino paints and crafts work.
There is also a Mathematics Practical Room, often called the "Maths Lab" in the school. Mathematical project-works and assignments are done here.
Audio-Visual Room
There is an air-conditioned Audio Visual room complete with projectors, white boards and computers. Seminars and Elocution competitions are held here.
Co-Curricular Activities
The National Cadet Corps.
The school has the NCC segment in which students (from class VI to IX) get admitted every year. They are seen in a parade in the Annual Sports Meet conducted by the school. The head of the NCC cadets is the Commander.
The Social Service Club
The school has its own Social Service Club, called "Alok", wherein the students and the teachers come together to try and develop the lives of the underprivileged children of the society. Alok organizes routine free health checkups and eye checkup camps, free teaching and donates clothes, books and blankets to the children.
House Systems
There are four Houses named after four famous Indian personalities. The House systems are followed in the Higher Secondary Wings. Each student is allotted a House by means of a lottery. The House of a student changes when he/she gets promoted into the Class XI, and a new House is allotted to him/her. The Houses are:
Shivaji House (yellow/saffron), named after Shivaji The Great
Rajaji House (green), named after C. Rajagopalachari
Swamiji House (red), named after Swami Vivekananda
Bapuji House (blue), named after Mahatma Gandhi
Each House competes each other in various inter-House competitions throughout the Calendar Year. They compete in the Annual Sports Meet held in the school field and the winning House is declared at the end of the Meet. The winning House is declared "House Of The Year" and is awarded a trophy.
