The Archipelago Brewery is a Singapore brewery owned by Heineken Asia Pacific. Devoted to the art of brewing, Archipelago signature craft beers are uniquely Asian.

History

The Archipelago Brewery was established in 1931 and became the first commercial brewery in Singapore, started by Becks.[1]

During World War II, the British deemed the brewery to be enemy territory due to its German ties and seized it in 1941. It was then bought by Malayan Breweries Ltd (which later became part of Asia Pacific Breweries) in the same year. In 2013, Asia Pacific Breweries merged to become Heineken Asia Pacific.

Archipelago Brewery is Heineken South East Asia’s craft brew arm. The old Archipelago Brewery was brought back to life on July 24, 2006 with internationally acclaimed Brew Master, Fal Allen.[2] Three variants of the Archipelago craft beers, namely Traveller's Wheat, Straits Pale and Traders Brown Ale were launched at Archipelago’s flagship pub located on Circular Road in Singapore (now closed).[3]

The launch of Archipelago is consistent with Asia Pacific Breweries’ objectives to add a new dimension to Singapore’s beer industry; and to continue to grow its presence and stature locally.[4] Archipelago Brewery produces boutique beers in small batches. In 2015, Archipelago Brewery brewed and sold 350,000 litres of beer.

The Archipelago Brewery currently produces four permanent beers: Belgian Wit, Summer Ale, Bohemian Lager and Irish Ale, as well as occasional limited edition brews.

Archipelago Brewery also imports “World Beers” for distribution in Singapore. Current import brands include Budejovicky Budvar, Birra Moretti, Estrella Damm and Rekorderlig Cider.

The Archipelago Brewery team comprises for four brewers, two business managers and Head of Archipelago Brewery Malcolm Paul Davies.
