The 1995–96 New Jersey Nets season was the franchise's 20th season in the NBA.[1] With Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson still fuming and struggling, the Nets got off to another terrible start losing their season opener to the expansion Toronto Raptors. Before December, Coleman was dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers for Shawn Bradley, and Anderson was sent to the Charlotte Hornets for Kendall Gill in January. Without Coleman and Anderson, the Nets played better down the stretch. But their slow start would keep them at a record of 30-52, sixth in the Atlantic Division.
