Balika Vadhu (English: Child Bride, Child Marriage) is an Indian soap opera that airs on Colors TV. The story which is set in rural Rajasthan traces the arduous journey of a child bride from the brink of childhood to womanhood.[2]
It is currently the longest running Hindi daily soap on Indian television with more than 2000 episodes.[3]
The show had two seasons titled Balika Vadhu — Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte (English: Child Bride — Strong Relationships of Tender Age, Child Marriage — Strong Relationship of Tender Age) and Balika Vadhu — Lamhe Pyaar Ke (English: Child Bride — Moments of Love, Child Marriage — Moments of Love).[4]

Plot summary
Season 1
The story revolves around Anandi and Jagdish married at childhood and relates to how their lives follows. After a failed child marriage with Jagya. Anandi reluctantly marries Shivraj Shekhar, the collector of a nearby city. Shiv's family take some time to accept her, but soon everyone accept her. Sometime later, Anandi is pregnant. During this time, Shiv dies in saving the city from terrorists. Anandi gives birth to twins, Shivam and Nandini. Nandini is kidnapped by a goon Akhiraj Singh and he gets her married to his son Kundan when she was of 3 months. The show takes a 11 year leap. Nandini, with much difficulties reunite with Anandi. After a series of incidents, a 15 year leap, after Anandi's death, how Nandini leads her life. Thus, beginning the second season.[5][6]
Season 2
The story which is set in rural Rajasthan traces the arduous journey of a child bride from the brink of childhood to womanhood.[2] First season focuses on the life journey of Anandi and Jagdish, who were married in childhood. The second season reflects the lives of Anandi's daughter Dr.Nandini (Nimboli) who was also a child bride, Dr.Amit Goel and Krish.

The drama has enjoyed immense popularity in Vietnam and has been the number one show in the country since 2013.[9] The show's popularity resulted in the show's actress, Avika Gor, receiving an award from the channel head of TodayTV.[10] Gor also visited Vietnam on a two-day trip to the country due to the success of the show; other cast members including Avinash Mukherjee and Smita Bansal also visited the country.[11] The show was the ninth most searched item in 2015 in Vietnam on Google as confirmed by the annual Google Trends end-of-year report.[12] The popularity of Balika Vadhu is part of a wider appeal for Asian dramas in Vietnam, which experts say have a "cultural edge over their Western counterparts" due to cultural similarities that are found in soap operas imported from South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia.[13]
