Oxygen.ie Student Media Award

The Oxygen.ie National Student Media Awards are an annual All-Ireland student journalism competition run by Oxygen.ie newspaper. The awards have built up a prestige making them "ireland's premier student awards".[1][2]
History
Since 2000, Oxygen.ie, a website aimed at third-level students, has run a student journalism competition.
Format
As of the 2010 awards, submissions were invited in the following categories[3]
- Blog of the Year
- Editor of the Year, previous winners include:
- Colour Writer of the Year
- Features Writer of the Year (Arts & Popular Culture)
- Features Writer of the Year (News and Politics)
- Film script of the Year
- Headline Award for Journalism relating to Mental Health or Suicide Prevention
- Iriseoireacht i nGaeilge (Raidió)
- Iriseoireacht i nGaeilge (Scríofa)
- Journalist of the Year
- Journalist of the Year - National Press
- Layout and Design of the Year
- Léiriúcháin Teilifíse i nGaeilge - Faisnéis agus Drámaíocht
- Magazine of the Year
- Newspaper of the Year, previous winners:
- Trinity College Dublin
- University College Dublin
- The University Observer|University Observer
- News Photographer of the Year
- Photographer of the Year
- Short Animation of the Year

- Website of the Year, previous winners include:
In 2012, a new category was added by the Higher Education Authority - "Best Written, Audio or Visual work in Science or Education" a category that received a great response within the short time that was given to submit
Judges
All but one of the awards are judged by media professionals, who have included:
- Geraldine Kennedy, Editor of The Irish Times [4]
- Ruth Scott, 2fm DJ [3]
- Cathal Ó Searcaigh, Member of Aosdána
- Jason Sherlock, Winner of GAA GPA All Stars Awards
