Los Medanos College (LMC) is a two-year community college in Pittsburg in Contra Costa County, California. LMC has an extension in Brentwood.
History
The name, meaning "inland sand dunes" in Spanish, refers to the sand dunes that characterize its location in eastern Contra Costa County along the Sacramento River and in the foothills of Mt. Diablo.[2] The college, opened in 1974, is one of three publicly supported two-year community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District (along with Contra Costa College and Diablo Valley College). Current enrollment is 14,000 students.[3]
Academics
35 associate degrees and 23 certificates of achievement are available as of 07/2011.[4] Several transfer-specific associate degrees are awaiting approval as of 07/2011. Many students complete their first two years of college here and transfer on to 4-year colleges and universities all over the country. Others move right into a specialized career or enhance their skills.

- Puente: improving college success and accessibility for Latino students
- MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement Program): For students interested in transferring to four-year institutions as majors in math-based fields; and graduate with baccalaureate degrees in science, engineering, computer science and other math-based fields.
- Umoja Scholars: focuses on enriching, fostering, and nurturing the educational experience of African American students.
- AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): prepares students to transfer to a four-year school.
- PTEC: Process Technology program: Aids and prepares students for a career in chemical processing and oil refinery work
