Summary

Opened ROM cartridge for the Game Boy Color. Here: Pokémon Silver. Some ROMs, like this one, use battery fed RAM. When the battery is empty old save games are lost and new ones cannot be restored anymore. The only possibility to enable saving again is to manually replace the battery with a new one, like e.g. described here. The tutorial also suggests to use a CR2032 battery (220 mAh) instead of the original CR2025 battery (165 mAh). The ROMs are closed with kind of an External Torx screw. I could open it by molding a plastic screwdriver: An empty plastic pen melted over a flame and pressed into the hole gave a perfectly formed (but not so stable) screw driver.
