Summary
An artists illustration of material being gravitationally sucked off a a blue supergiant variable star designated HDE 226868 onto a black hole known as Cygnus X-1.
The purpose of this version of the image (versus <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:800px-Cygnus_X-1.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1" class="new" title="File:800px-Cygnus X-1.jpg (page does not exist)">file:800px-Cygnus_X-1.jpg</a>) is to increase the sharpness of reduced-size thumbnails in articles. Special techniques were used in Photoshop to retain extremely sharp stars in this version.
