"In 1932, on 46 acres of land, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buhl_Foundation" class="extiw" title="en:Buhl Foundation">Buhl Foundation</a> began building this legacy of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Buhl,_Jr." class="extiw" title="en:Henry Buhl, Jr.">Henry Buhl, Jr.</a>, who left $15 million 'to help benefit the people of the city.' A sign on a brick wall near the intersection of Bigham Road and Pennridge Road says the following: "Chatham Village has been designated a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Historic_Landmark" class="extiw" title="en:National Historic Landmark">National Historic Landmark</a> - This site possess national significance in commemorating the history of the United States of America - A model <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/planned_community" class="extiw" title="en:planned community">planned community</a> with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/rowhouse" class="extiw" title="en:rowhouse">rowhouses</a>, garden courts, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/greenbelt" class="extiw" title="en:greenbelt">greenbelt</a>, and recreation facilities opened through the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buhl_Foundation" class="extiw" title="en:Buhl Foundation">Buhl Foundation</a> to promote <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/social_reform" class="extiw" title="en:social reform">social reforms</a> and housing improvements for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_class" class="extiw" title="en:Middle class">middle income</a> families.
