The blue-crowned trogon (Trogon curucui) is a species of bird in the Trogonidae family. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.
Description
The male has a blue crown, a black face, a red belly, a green back and a striped tail. The female lacks the colourful plumage.
Range in South America, Amazon basin
The blue-crowned trogon's range in South America is the southwestern and southeastern quadrants of the Amazon basin with the northern limit being the Amazon River. The range continues beyond the Amazon basin south to northern Argentina and Paraguay, and eastwards to eastern coastal Brazil as far south as northern Espírito Santo state; a third of the species range is outside the Amazon basin.
